Increase in National Minimum Wage (NMW)

On 1st October 2016 all National Minimum Wage (NMW) hourly rates will increase to:

Current Rate      Rate From 01/10/2016

Adult Rate                      21-24 year olds                                  6.70                               6.95

Youth Development     18-20 year olds                                  5.30                               5.55

Young Workers             16-17 year olds                                  3.87                               4.00

Apprentice Rate                         *                                               3.30                               3.40

  • For 16-18 year olds or over 19 in the first year of apprenticeship.

However the National Living Wage (NLW), which muct be paid to workers aged 25 and over, will remain at £7.20 per hour.For 16-18 year olds or over 19 in the first year of apprenticeship.

This is the last time that the NMW rate change will take effect in October.  From 2017 increases to both the NLW and the NMW will take place in April.
